Dear pastors, supporting churches, family and friends:
We have had an exciting time since our last letter in August! When we boarded the plane to leave Trinidad, Patty was feeling fine. After about an hour of flight, she began to sweat profusely and became extremely nauseated. During the next hour or so, she had pain in the left side of her neck and shoulder but didn’t say a word to anyone. She prayed, I prayed… and when she finally told me about the pain, I immediately contacted a flight attendant. The crew went into overdrive, calling for a medical professional from among the passengers and contacting the airline’s medical team on the ground. Once our flight arrived in Houston, we were escorted from the plane and taken to the nearest emergency room. Praise the Lord, there was no evidence of a heart attack, but we were advised to have complete tests when we arrived at home, which we have done. Everything has been within normal limits, and we are so grateful to God for this “wake up call” regarding our health. After making several lifestyle and diet changes, we are both feeling better than we have in a very long time.
Last April, I injured my back doing concrete work in Trinidad. I recently had an MRI which showed some bone degeneration and a bulging disc. While the damage doesn’t require surgery, praise the Lord, the doctor cautioned me to avoid heavy lifting and certain bending motions to prevent further injury. It looks like water aerobics will be in my new exercise regimen!
We have stayed close to home until now because of medical appointments, and it has been a blessing to reconnect and serve in our home church. I had the privilege to preach in September and Patty spoke at our annual ladies’ retreat in October. Over the next few weeks, we plan to be in supporting churches in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. Patty has been invited to speak at a Ladies’ Jubilee in Wichita, Kansas, as well. We will be in California for two weeks to spend Thanksgiving with our children and grandchildren.
Our Oklahoma Citu home has been rented out for the past 3 years, so we are spending some time now and in December making repairs and assuring everything is in good order before we leave the country. The tentative plan is to spend Christmas and the New Year with family in Oklaho-ma and Texas and leave for Croatia dur-ing the second week of January. We have to return our rented furlough vehicle to St. Louis on our way out of the coun-try, so we will fly from there to Baltimore, take a military “space available” flight to Germany, then a train trip to Frankfurt and final flight to Zagreb, where we will be met by Brad, Connie and Lucas Lowrie. We are looking forward to seeing them again!
Because we were never able to move our household goods to Trinidad, our shipping fund is still intact. We have also laid aside a portion of our income each month to help with anticipated relocations. Since September, we have reserved all our support for rent, visa fees and so on. We know the Lord will continue to meet our needs. Thank you for your consistent prayer and financial support as we serve the Lord. May HE richly bless you as you serve Him!
